“광복절이 돌아올 때마다 그 날의 감격을 잊을 수 없습니다” 일제강점기로부터 한국이 해방을 맞은지 71돌이 됐다. 조국의 광복을 위해 일생을 독립운동에 헌신했던 애국지사들의 뜻과 정신을 기리는 광복절을 맞이해 최초의 여성 광복군이었던 고 신정숙 여사의 아들 장영원(87) 선생은“1945년 8월15일이 생생하게 떠오른다. 비록 광복이 되고 1년 후에야 어머니를 만날 수 있었지만 그 날의 감격은 잊을 수 없다”고 당시의 북받치는 감정을 그대로 드러냈다.

장영원 선생의 어머니 신정숙 여사는 지난 2014년 국립대전현충원이 뽑은 8월의 현충인물로 선정됐다. 1910년 5월12일 평안북도 의주에서 8남매 중 2녀로 태어났고 집안대대로 일제에 항거하다가 식구들이 사망하거나 행방불명되었다. 이후 ‘1호 여성광복군’으로서 1942년 광복군 제2지대 3구대 3분대에 편입됐다. 전선과 후방 모두에서 중국 유격대와 합동으로 정보수집 및 선전공작 등의 독립운동을 전개했으며 1997년 노환으로 별세했다. 정부는 1963년 신 지사의 공로를 인정, 건국훈장 애국장을 수여했다.

아버지 장현근 선생(1969년 작고)도 상해·만주 등에서 독립운동을 펼쳐 그 공로로 1990년 건국훈장 애족장을 추서 받았다. 나라의 독립을 위해 뜻을 함께 했던 고 신정숙·장현근 애국지사 부부는 현재 국립대전현충원 애국지사 제2묘역에 안장돼 있다.

어머니 신정숙 여사는 아버지를 찾아 어린 아들을 외할머니에게 맡기고 상해 임시정부로 떠났다. 이후 그는 외할머니 밑에서 자랐고 신정숙 여사와 장현근 선생은 중국에서 만나지 못하고 각자의 삶을 살아갔다. 어머니는 김구 선생 밑에서 최초의 여성 광복군으로 활동하게 되었다. 세월이 흘러 장영원 선생은 어머니 신정숙 여사를 광복 후 1946년이 돼서야 만날 수 있었다.

“광복 후 어머니가 계신다는 여관에 찾아가 방문을 두드렸다. ‘누구세요?’라는 물음이 돌아왔는데 이미 그때부터 어머니임을 알아차렸다. ‘저 영원이에요’라고 말하고 문이 열리자마자 둘이서 부둥켜안고 그동안 얼마나 서러웠는지 2시간여 동안 그 자리에서 통곡했다”며 당시를 회고했다.

그리고 장 선생은 자리에서 일어나 어머니 신정숙 여사가 독립운동 전선에서 직접 자필로 써서 보내 온 편지들을 보여줬다. 그동안 얼마나 소중히 간직해 왔는지 별다른 손상 없이 잘 보존된 상태였다.

그는 “어머니가 1년에 한 번씩 외할머니 댁에 자필편지를 보내왔다. 편지를 한자 한자 읽어보면 가족에 대한 애정이 각별했다는 것을 그대로 느낄 수 있다. 가족에 대한 애정과 걱정에도 불구하고 시대의 비극으로 가족과 멀리 떨어져 있을 수밖에 없었던 한 사람의 희생을 지켜본 입장에서 숭고함이 느껴지고 존경스럽다. 나라 독립을 위해 한 어머니, 한 아내로서의 인생을 고스란히 바친 분이다”고 밝혔다.

장 선생은 “일제시대의 아픔을 온몸으로 겪고 나니 자기 나라의 소중함을 뼈저리게 깨닫게 되었다. 미국에 건너와 살면서도 한인들의 애국심을 고취시키기 위해 1994년 미주에서 광복회를 조직했다”며, “광복 71주년을 맞아 한인 모두가 애국심을 가슴 깊이 새기고 선대의 희생을 생각하는 시간을 가졌으면 좋겠다. 애국지사 부부의 아들임을 자랑스럽게 생각하며 부모님의 애국정신을 앞으로도 끊임없이 전파할 것이다”고 힘주어 말했다.

“Every time Liberation Day comes back, I cannot forget the thrill of that day.” It has been 71 years since Korea was liberated from the Japanese colonial rule. On August 15, 1945, Mr. Young-Won Chang, the son of Mrs. Shin Jung-suk, the first female Liberation Soldier, celebrated the Liberation Day of the Patriots who dedicated their lives to the independence movement. Although I could only meet my mother a year after I was liberated, I could not forget the emotion of that day. ”

Jang Young-won's mother, Shin Jung-sook, was selected as a remembrance of August, selected by the National Daejeon Cemetery. Born on May 12, 1910, in Euiju, North Pyongan Province, she was born to two daughters of eight brothers and sisters. Since 1942, she became a member of the 3rd division of the 2nd zone of Gwangbok-gun in 1942. In both front and rear, they joined forces with Chinese guerrillas to promote independence, including intelligence gathering and propaganda, and died in 1997. In 1963, the government recognized the work of the new governor and awarded her the Patriot of Order.

His father, Chang Hyun-geun (small in 1969), also received independence movements in Shanghai and Manchuria, and was awarded the Founding Order of Merit in 1990. The late Patriotic Governor Shin Jung-sook and Chang Hyun-geun, who had worked together for the independence of the country, are now buried in the 2nd cemetery of the Patriotic Governor of the National Daejeon County.

Mother Shin Jung-sook found her father and left her young son to her grandmother. Later, he grew up under his grandmother, and Mrs. Shin Jung-sook and Jang Hyun-geun did not meet in China and lived their lives. My mother became the first female Liberation Army under Kim Gu. Years later, Chang Young-won was not able to meet his mother, Shin Jeong-sook, until 1946 after the liberation.

“After the liberation, I went to the inn where my mother was. The question 'Who are you?' Has returned and you have already realized that you are a mother. “I was in eternity,” he said, and as soon as the door opened, they hugged and lamented for two hours how sad they were. ”

Mr. Chang got up and showed his mother's letters written by hand from the front of the independence movement. It has been well preserved without any damage to how precious it has been.

“My mother sent me a handwritten letter to my grandmother's house once a year. As you read the letters, you can feel that you have loved your family. Despite her affection and concern for her family, she feels sublime and respectful in her eyes on the sacrifice of a man who had to stay away from his family because of the tragedy of the times. “I have given my life as a mother and a wife for national independence.”

Mr. Chang said, “After experiencing the pain of the Japanese colonial period, I came to realize the importance of my country. In 1994, the Korean Liberation Society was organized in the Americas to promote Korean patriotism while living in the United States. “In the 71st anniversary of the liberation, I hope that all Koreans will have a heartfelt patriotism and think about the sacrifices of their fathers. I am proud to be the son of the Patriotic Governor and will continue to spread my parents' patriotism in the future. ”

[우리문화신문=양승국 변호사]  백범 김구 선생이 이운환에게 저격당하여 장사의 상아의원에서 치료를 받고 있을 때입니다. 하루는 간호사가 슬그머니 들어오더니 편지 한 통을 두고 사라집니다. 발신인은 상덕포로수용소 신정숙(일명 신봉빈)입니다. 신정숙이 자신은 중국 유격대에 붙잡혀 수감되어 있다며 석방시켜달라며 청원한 것입니다. 그런데 신정숙은 백범과 일면식도 없는 여자입니다. 어떻게 모르는 여인이 그것도 포로수용소에 수감되어 있는 여인이 백범에게 편지를 보낸 것일까요?

자세한 경위는 알 수 없으나, 신정숙은 산동에 볼 일 보러 갔다가 중국 유격대에 붙잡혔습니다. 중국 유격대는 신정숙이 일본 식민지 백성이니 적국인 일본인과 마찬가지로 생각하고 포로수용소에 수감한 모양입니다. 그런데 신정숙이 자신을 차별하는 일본 포로에 항의하며 적개심을 드러내는 것을 보고 이상하다싶었는지 조사를 합니다. 내막을 알게 된 신문관이 한국인 가운데 친숙한 사람이 누구냐고 물으니, 신정숙은 백범의 이름을 댑니다. 백범과 일면식도 없지만 평소 존경하던 백범의 이름을 댄 것이지요.

마침 신문관이 장사 사람이었고, 신문관은 백범이 상아의원에 입원중이라는 것을 알고 있었지요. 신정숙은 신문관에게 편지를 써서 주며 백범에게 전해달라고 부탁하였고, 그리하여 신문관은 장사에 오면서 이 편지를 갖고 와 백범에게 전해달라고 준 것이지요. 내막을 알게 된 백범은 상덕포로수용소로 사람을 보내 신정숙을 구해내려고 합니다. 그런데 조선의용대 김원봉 또한 신정숙이 수감되어 있는 것을 알고 자신이 보증을 서고 한 발 앞서 신정숙을 빼냈습니다. 그래서 백범은 김원봉에게 편지를 보내 신정숙을 중경의 임시정부로 데려옵니다.

이후 백범은 신정숙을 비서로 쓰다가 광복군이 발족된 후에는 신정숙을 제3분처 임무위원 겸 회계조장으로 강서성 상요로 파견합니다. 여성 제1호 광복군이 된 신정숙은 중국유격대와 합동으로 전선과 후방에서 정보수집 및 선전공작에 눈부신 활동을 합니다. 신정숙의 활약에 장개석은 1명의 한국 여인이 1,000명의 중국 장병보다 우수하다고 극찬하였다고 하는군요. 신정숙은 1977년 건국포장, 1990년에는 대한민국 건국훈장 애국장을 받습니다. 그리고 1997년 먼저 간 동지들을 따라 광복된 조국 산하를 떠납니다.

The sender is Shin Jeong-sook (aka Shin Bong-bin), a concentration camp in Sangdok. Shin Jung-suk appealed for his release, saying that he was detained in a Chinese guerrilla group. Shin Jung-sook is a woman who has no crime and no one. How does a woman who does not know that sent a letter to Baekbeom, a woman in prison camp? 

Details are not known, but Shin Jung Sook went to see the shore in Shandong and was caught in a Chinese guerrilla group. The Chinese guerrilla group is like a Japanese colonial people because Shin Jung Sook is a Japanese colonial people. However, Shin Jung - suk protests against Japanese prisoners who discriminate against him, revealing hostility, and investigates whether he wanted to be strange. Shinjong Sook, who is familiar with the Koreans, is named after Baekbeom. I do not have a face with Baekbum, but I gave it the name of Baekmu who I admired.

At the end the newspaper was a merchant, and the newspaper knew that Baekbeom was being hospitalized in the ivory council. Shin Jung Sook wrote a letter to the journalist and asked him to send it to Baekbun, so that the journalist gave the letter to the Baekbu while he was at the business. After learning about the inside, Baekbum sends a man to Sangdeok prison camp to rescue Shin Jeong-sook. However, Kim Won - bong of the Chosun Ilbo, also knowing that Shin Jeong - sook is imprisoned, took out Shin Jeong - suk just one step ahead of his assurance. So Baekbeom sends a letter to Kim Won - bong, bringing Shin Jung Sook to the provisional government of Chongqing.

Shin Jeong-sook, who became the No. 1 female in the Liberation Army of Korea, participates in the spectacular activities of gathering information and propaganda in the front and back, jointly with the Chinese guerrilla army. In the act of Shin Jung Sook, Chiang Kai-shek praised one Korean woman as superior to 1,000 Chinese soldiers. Shin Jung Sook received the National Palace Patrol in 1977 and the National Patriotic Medal in 1990. Then, in 1997, we first leave our homeland as a liberated country.
